Rich text to Markdown, without learning Markdown
RichMarkdown is a free online editor for people who want Markdown files but would rather not type ** and #. Write the way you would in Google Docs, keep your research and sources next to the page, and export a clean .md file when you are done.
How it works
- 1. Write or pasteType in the editor, or paste from Google Docs, Word, Notion or a web page. Formatting is kept; fonts and colours are stripped.
- 2. Collect sourcesSave quotes and URLs in the Research panel. Insert one and it lands as a blockquote with its source link.
- 3. Check and exportThe export checklist shows every format you used and whether it survives. Then copy the Markdown or download the .md file.
What converts to Markdown

| Bullet and numbered lists (nested) | - item, 1. item | Guaranteed |
| Links and images | [text](url), | Guaranteed |
| Inline code and code blocks | `code`, fenced ``` blocks | Guaranteed |
| Quotes | > quote | Guaranteed |
| Tables | GFM pipe tables | Best effort (merged cells can't be represented) |
| Comments, colours, fonts | — | Not part of Markdown, removed |
Who it's for
- Writers and researchers who draft in a word processor but publish to a static site, a wiki or a notes app such as Obsidian.
- Developers writing READMEs, docs and GitHub issues who want to paste from a design doc without cleaning it up by hand.
- Students and teams moving notes from Google Docs or Word into Markdown-based tools.
- Anyone feeding text to AI tools — Markdown keeps the structure (headings, lists, tables) that plain text loses.

Frequently asked questions
Is RichMarkdown free?
Yes. The editor, the export and the research clips are free to use with no account and no sign-up.
Where are my documents stored?
In your own browser (localStorage) on this device. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded to a server, so clearing your browser data also clears your document. Export a .md file to keep a copy.
Can I paste from Google Docs or Microsoft Word?
Yes. Copy from Google Docs, Word, Notion, a web page or an email and paste into the editor. Headings, bold, italic, lists, links, tables and images come along; fonts, colours and other styling are removed so the Markdown stays clean.
Which Markdown flavour does it export?
CommonMark-compatible Markdown, plus GitHub-flavoured (GFM) tables and ~~strikethrough~~. Code blocks use fenced ``` blocks, lists use - and 1., headings use #.
What does the export checklist do?
It compares the formats used in your document with what actually appears in the exported Markdown, so you can see before downloading whether anything would be lost.
Does it work offline or on mobile?
It runs entirely in the browser, so once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection. On phones, switch between the Write and Research tabs at the top.
